Amidst all the hullabaloo surrounding Mark Zuckerberg’s acquisition of Instagram for $1 Billion, the rise and rise of Pinterest has been somewhat overlooked. Pinterest is now the third most popular social network site in the US, overtaking LinkedIn, Google+, MySpace etc. A staggering feat considering it was launched little more than two years ago.
A quick Google search shows that the top ten museums on Pinterest – measured by ‘quality of boards, user following, and distinctive creative approaches’ – are predominantly US based. In the UK, the Design Museum and Tate Gallery both use Pinterest in very interesting, but different ways.
